Brand Stories

Devon Energy

Operating in the highly competitive energy industry, Devon Canada needed a well thought out and robust marketing campaign to communicate key values to both prospective new employees and to the communities the company operates in.


Bantrel, a top engineering firm in Calgary, came to Rare after a lengthy RFP process looking to build a brand from the bottom up. With a pile of collateral and no real guidelines on how to use them, Bantrel was looking for a website, two corporate videos, and several print materials.

Shuswap Ski & Board

Shuswap Ski and Board is a leading store for watersport fans and is renowned to enthusiasts in Calgary and the Shuswap. SS&B recognized their potential to become a leading national brand by expanding digitallu, they came to Rare to boost their digital presence and ignite the e-commerce side of their business.


Calbridge Homes has served the Calgary housing market since 1978 and in that time has become an industry leader recognized for superior quality and a strong commitment to the unique needs of their clients but was looking to launch a multi-family project for the first time in Calgary and turned to us to help them build their Premium Townhome brand.

Marty Park, CEO

Marty has owned and operated businesses for more than two decades, in market sectors like technology, digital message services, software, real estate marketing, and hospitality. Drawing on experience in strategy, leadership, finance, and marketing roles, Marty brings a “whole business” perspective to marketing and advertising. His hard-won understanding of the demands facing clients are a driving force behind Rare’s “Results Rule” philosophy.


Scott Hartley, Director of Client Services

Scott brings 15 years of agency and client side experience to Rare. At WestJet, he created the company’s first branded sponsorship and community investment programs. At RBC Financial Group, he delivered national and regional programs, as well as sponsorship activity with the Olympics, and Hockey Canada. His agency experience has seen him develop strategies and go-to-market efforts for a long list of clients that includes Big Rock Brewery, Tourism Saskatoon, the Jubilee Auditoria of Alberta, Desjardins Financial Securities, Calbridge Homes, Devon Canada, and the American Heart Association, and many more.


David Cree, Director of Digital Services

David is a salesman, entrepreneur and technology lover that has molded his broad skill set into a marketing zealot. He understands business needs from the core out, starting with the sales process and the critical bottom line, and helps to develop marketing that connects directly back. David has focused almost solely in online marketing efforts for over eight years and brings a perspective that goes beyond stellar-looking websites to stellar-integrated marketing campaigns that perform.


Tyler Power, Creative Director

Tyler is a graduate of the Alberta College of Art + Design with a major in design and a minor in advertising and illustration. He has been fortunate enough to work on a wide range of world-class brands including Shaw, The Forzani Group, Athlete’s World, Auto Trader, Puma, Nike Canada, project RED, Blizzard, Dell, and Burton Snowboards. His first love is print design and typography and he is always looking for new ways to transfer this passion to the interactive landscape. Tyler enjoys discovering new music, snowboarding, fly-fishing and his friends and family.


Andrea Ruales, Graphic Designer

Andrea comes from a tropical background. Born and raised in Ecuador, lived in Toronto for 10 years and now has expanded her adventures to Calgary. She's always had an open creative mind that works that has served her well and made her an asset to the Rare team. Graduated from Humber College in 2008 with an Advertising & Graphic Design Diploma. She's always looking to expand her skills, her experiences and always interested in excelling her professional development as a Graphic Designer. Andrea is very enthusiastic about her health, loves travel, food and cats.


Matt Thompson, Digital Content Specialist

Born and raised in the UK, Matt started his career in PR before working with a forward-thinking agency that instilled him with the belief that digital was the future. Since then Matt has endeavored to keep himself on the crest of the ever-moving wave that is the developments in digital engagement. He values conversion tracking above all else when it comes to strategy so was a natural fit here at Rare. In his time he has worked with companies like Stolichnaya, Tennants, Peugeot, Sunridge RV, Total, and Calbridge Homes. In his spare time Matt dedicates his time to hitting his head on low hanging objects and having to listen to people impersonate his accent.


Sebastian Gonzalez, Front-End Developer

Originally from Toronto, Sebastian moved to Calgary and started working with the web in 2008. As a graduate of SAIT Polytechnic, he began working with multiple forms of new media such as graphic design, web development, flash animation, and motion graphics. But his passion for front-end development and motion design quickly took over. He’s worked with a number of large to small scale clients, bringing ideas to life with his attention to user experience. Along with an obsession for “clean code”, he’s constantly trying to learn and perfect his development techniques. On his down time, Sebastian enjoys playing hockey, going fishing, and is an avid movie goer.


Vinciane de Pape, Senior Designer

A graduate of the Alberta College of Art & Design, Vinciane has combined a keen eye for detail and an obsession with typography to become a truly gifted senior designer. Her talent for clean design has seen her work national and international brands alike, including: Shaw, ATB Financial, Brookfield Homes, Adidas, AT&T, Best Buy, and most recently Northwest Territories Tourism. On her down time Vinciane enjoys the simple things, hiking, yoga, and damned good coffee.
